O termo quadriciclo (usualmente chamado de moto quatro em Portugal) ou ATV ("All-Terrain Vehicle" em inglês) é utilizado geralmente para descrever um pequeno veículo motorizado aberto com quatro rodas, desenhado para uso off-road. Todavia, o American National Standards Institute (ANSI) define um ATV como um veículo que se movimenta sobre pneus de baixa pressão, com um assento onde se instala o operador e um guidom para controle de direção. Pela definição corrente do ANSI, o veículo é destinado a um único ocupante, embora uma mudança para dois assentos já tenha sido implantada pelos principais fabricantes, que na maioria das vezes oferecem os quadriciclos em 2 versões.
O condutor opera estes veículos como uma motocicleta, mas as rodas extras lhe dão mais estabilidade em baixa velocidade. Embora tipicamente sejam equipados com três ou quatro rodas, existem modelos com seis rodas para aplicações especializadas. A capacidade dos motores que equipam os ATVs vendidos hoje em dia (2007) nos Estados Unidos, varia de 50cc a 1000cc. Acho esses veiculos fascinantes assim como os pequenos trikes (motos com 2 rodas atras, agora na frente tbm)
Pena que a burocracia medieval no lisarb não permite o uso de quadriciclos nas ruas, são veiculos mais seguros que as motos e seriam uma boa solução para entregas e transportes de pequenas mercadorias ao invés de furgões e caminhões. Interessante a grande quantidade de quadri sendo ofertados por representats chineses no brasil, mas onde serão usados? Muito interessante e completa a matéria sobre os ATV's. Deve ser maneiro passear nesse tipo de veículo. Na minha opinião as da HONDA e KAWASAKI, pelo menos no aspecto, parecem mais robustas. Desconhecia que a nossa legislação não permite o tráfego nas ruas, embora realmente nunca tenha visto nenhum rodando nas cidades. Vou pesquisar para ver como pensam os legisladores dos outros países.
